Cabbage paruppu kootu(no coconut)

        This is a great easy to make recipe on a lazy weekend but when you want homemade meal. It goes well with hot rice and pepper rasam. This serves about 4 along with 1 cup of cooked rice and rasam.

Ingredients

Cabbage- 2 cups (into small pieces)
Thur dal/ thuvaram paruppu- 1/2 cup
Tomato- 1
Garlic- 2 cloves
Turmeric powder- 1/2 tsp, Red chilli powder- 1/2 tsp

Seasoning:
Curry leaves- a sprig, shallot- 1 sliced, dry red chilli- 1, mustard seeds, urad dal- 1/2 tsp ea.
Coconut oil- 1 tbsp

Method

  • Wash the dal and put in  a pressure cooker. Add about 1 cup of water.
  • Add the cabbage, tomato pieces, garlic, turmeric and chilli powder and required salt.
  • Pressure cook for 6 whistles in medium flame.
  • Once all the pressure is gone, make the seasoning in coconut oil and add into the cooker and mix well. 

The consistency should be little thicker not runny like gravy. If you feel like you have added more water after cooking the cabbage, simmer at low flame till its thickened.
