Siruparuppu payasam/ Moong dal payasam
One such good recipe to make offering to God on an auspicious day. And also a healthy dessert for all kinds of ages. This one is a milder sweet kind. The consistency should be thinner.
Ingredients
Siruparuppu/ moong dal- 1/2 cup
Jaggery- 1/2 cup
Ghee- 2 tbsp
Cardamom- 4
Cashews- 1 tbsp, Raisins/ kismiss- 1 tbsp
Grated coconut- 1 tbsp

Method
- Pressure the moong dal in 1 cup of water till its mushy. (about 5 whistles)
- In a pan, add 1 tsp of water along with the jaggery and melt it. Strain the jaggery and add it to the dal and mix well and bring it to boil.
- In the same pan, add ghee and heat it.
- Add the cashews and brown it. Keep aside.
- Add raisins and cardamom in the same pot and wait till the raisins are bulged.
- Add into the payasam. Now add the coconut into the pan and fry a little in the ghee. This enhances the flavour and its completely optional.
