Siruparuppu payasam/ Moong dal payasam

       One such good recipe to make offering to God on an auspicious day. And also a healthy dessert for all kinds of ages. This one is a milder sweet kind. The consistency should be thinner.


Ingredients

Siruparuppu/ moong dal- 1/2 cup
Jaggery- 1/2 cup
Ghee- 2 tbsp
Cardamom- 4
Cashews- 1 tbsp, Raisins/ kismiss- 1 tbsp
Grated coconut- 1 tbsp

Method

  1. Pressure the moong dal in 1 cup of water till its mushy. (about 5 whistles)
  2. In a pan, add 1 tsp of water along with the jaggery and melt it. Strain the jaggery and add it to the dal and mix well and bring it to boil.
  3. In the same pan, add ghee and heat it.
  4. Add the cashews and brown it. Keep aside.
  5. Add raisins and cardamom in the same pot and wait till the raisins are bulged.
  6. Add into the payasam. Now add the coconut into the pan and fry a little in the ghee. This enhances the flavour and its completely optional.
