Broken Wheat upma/ Godhumai rava upma/ Cracked Wheat sooji


        Broken wheat is a great source of fiber and protein. Including this diet in breakfast or dinner makes your stomach feel light and also filling. This is also a good choice of diet for diabetics.





Ingredients

Wheat rava- 1 cup
Onion- 1/2 medium
Tomato- 1/4 finely chopped
Green chilli- 2 slit
Carrot- 1 grated
Red chilli- 1
Potato- 1 small cubed
Coconut- 2 tbsp grated
Oil- 1 tsp
Coconut oil- 1tsp
Mustard seeds- 1/2 tsp
Urad dal- 1 tsp
Channa dal- 1 tsp
Curry leaves- few
Water- 2 cups

Method
  • In a pan, heat up oil,  put in mustard seeds, urad dal, channa dal and once splutters, add onions, curry leaves, green chillies, dry red chilli and saute till onions are translucent.
  • Then add in the vegetables and add salt and saute for 2 minutes.
  • Add 2 cups of water and bring it to rolling boil.
  • Check for seasoning and at this stage, water should taste salty.
  • Now it is time to add wheat rava and give a good mix.
  • Put the lid on and keep the flame medium low  and cook for another 15 minutes.
  • Garnish with grated coconut and drizzle the coconut oil at the end for a heavenly aroma.
