Thattampayiru sundal/ Cow peas sundal


      This is a healthy choice of snack my mom used to give all through my school days in the evening as a snack once a week. The alternate way to make your little ones eat this is by adding grated coconut and a little sugar into the bowl of cooked peas.Mommy's trick!!!




Ingredients

Red cow peas/ thattapayiru- 1 cup
Shallots-3
Dry chilli- 3
Coconut- 1/4 cup
Curry leaves- a sprig
Mustard seeds, urad dal, channa dal- each 1 tsp

Method

  1. Soak the cow peas for about 5 hours. Pressure cook for 5 whistles in a cup of water. Drain and keep aside.
  2. In a pan, heat up 1 tsp oil, add in mustard seeds, urad dal, channa dal, curry leaves. 
  3. Once splutters, add in chilli, chopped onion and saute for 2 minutes till onion is translucent.
  4. Put in the cow peas and coconut and mix well for another 2 minutes. 
  5. A healthy evening snack is ready.
