Sorakaai kootu
This recipe can be served with hot rice and ghee and also as a side dish for rasam and rice.
Ingredients
Bottle gourd/ Sorakaai- 2 cups
Thoor dhal- 1/4 cup
Moong dhal- 1/4 cup
Turmeric powder- 1/4 tsp
Red chilli powder- 1 1/2 tsp
Hing- 1/4 tsp
Coconut- 2 tbsp
Cumin seeds- 1 tsp
Green chilly- 1
Curry leaves- few
Onion- 1 tsp( finely chopped)
Mustard seeds- 1/4 tsp
Urad dhal- 1/4 tsp
Coconut Oil- 2 tsp
Method
- Peel the skin of bottle gourd and remove the fluffy central portion and cut into small cubes.
- Pressure cook thoor and moong dhal with hing and salt and make it smashed.
- Boil the vegetable in a pan with turmeric powder, salt and a little water.
- In the mean time, grind coconut, cumin and green chilly into a fine paste.
- Once vegetable is well cooked, add the paste and cooked dhal, add some water and cook thoroughly till the raw smell is out.
- For final seasoning, take a pan, add oil, once it is hot, add mustard seeds, urad dhal, curry leaves, onion and saute and then add to the gravy and mix well.
