Raw plantain roast/ Vazhakkai Masal


Ingredients

Plantain/ Vazhakkai - 3 (medium sized)
Tomatoes- 1 large
Onion- 1 large
Curry leaves
Coriander leaves
Chilli powder 1 tsp
Coriander powder 1 tsp
Garlic- 3 cloves
Ginger- 1 inch
Garam masala- 1 tsp
Cumin seeds- 1tsp
Fennel seeds- 1tbsp
Mustard seeds
Salt
Oil 2 tbsp

Method



  • In a pan heat water with salt and turmeric and add the cut plantain pieces and half cook them and drain the excess water.
  • Heat oil in a non stick pan, splutter some mustard seeds and curry leaves.
  • Throw in crushed garlic, ginger, cumin seeds, fennel seeds and saute a few minutes.
  • Add sliced onions and saute till soft.
  • Add the tomato cubes and cover the pan and cook till it turns mushy.
  • Throw in the spices and mix well.
  • Now add the plantain pieces and mix well and cook it covered till the masala gets coated over the plantain.
  • Garnish some coriander leaves and serve it hot with rasam or paruppu or sambar.
